The Girl I Left Behind is a well-crafted story with a historical basis. Classify it as a quirky love story, a work of historical fiction or an intriguing mystery it was still a great read. It should be a movie.

Addictive is the best way to describe this book; it draws you into the family and it extends a hand of involvement as the story unfolds. The various characters come to life through impressive details of the period. The extensive research needed to make this work is extensive and complete; without it the reader would not have mental images necessary to keep your mind focused on the telling of the story which moves rapidly and consistently through events. It is recommended that you carve out much time to read this book because once started the urge to put it down is diminished. It lends itself to many stories to follow.

Heart Pounding And Informative.
This novel set during the War Between The States in North Alabama and told via the lens of Alexandra, an excellent horsewoman coming of age during the era, is flat-out heart pounding. The author really captures the nature of her characters via their unique dialogues. And presents some very interesting insights into the War, itself. It is so action based, it can be a little confusing at times. And at times, it seemed like Alexandra was being obstinate for no reason. However, her love for her town shines through. And one definitely roots for her throughout the story. In short, this is both a great and informative read to indulge in.

This book was very well written. Stephanie has a unique ability of engaging the reader in a way that makes one feel like they are a part of the story. I felt like I was among family and friends, sharing with them different emotions during the day-to-day affairs of a war-torn country and community. It has left me eager to read a sequel.

As a retired English teacher, I give Stephanie Bain an A++ on this novel. The plot and subplots are. interwoven in ways that keep the reader engaged and anxious to discover future connections among the events. The historical background information is both authentic and enlightening….It is evident that Stephanie did her homework. She is able to create word pictures that allow the reader to “see ” all aspects of the characters, How about a sequel so that the future of these folks can be revealed?

I L♡VED The Girl I Left Behind! It is exciting with many stories within the plot! The historical references guide you along with adventure, drama, laughter, mystery, and romance.
